Are you searching for professional headshots that you will love? Headshots that effortlessly convey professionalism, friendliness, and unwavering confidence, plus capture your unique personality?

Recently I had the pleasure of photographing Debra Duvall, a well-known local real estate professional with an extensive career in Martin County. We created headshots that she loves, during a quick and painless photo session at my photography studio in beautiful Stuart, Florida.

Debra, a partner at Water Pointe Realty Group, works with a wide range of properties, including residential, investment, development, luxury, and waterfront properties. Her expertise and reputation precede her, making her a true icon in Martin County.

The process of creating Debra's new headshots was straightforward and easy. We began with a phone call to discuss the purpose of the images, the emotions she wanted to convey, and the most suitable clothing to align with her brand image. Debra specifically needed three distinct images: one facing forward, one slightly to the right, and another slightly to the left. With over 42 years of experience in marketing and selling luxury waterfront properties in Martin County, Florida, she had a clear vision of the headshots she needed for her website, advertising, and professional directories.

Headshots and Hairstyles Tell a Story of Professional Growth and Expertise

During our conversation, Debra revealed an exciting project she and her marketing team were working on called “The Hairstyles Have Changed; My Passion for Real Estate Hasn’t!” This involved creating a postcard showcasing Debra's headshots throughout her career, dating back to 1981. This retrospective approach not only highlights her professional growth but also serves as a testament to her extensive experience and longevity within our community.

As she progressed in her career, Debra always understood the importance of regularly updating her headshots. (Don’t we all become a little hesitant to work with someone whose headshot is clearly out of date?)

Headshot Photo Session: Quick and Easy so she could get back to work

When she came to my studio for the photography, our pre-planned strategy (from our phone call) made the session itself effortless. We had already discussed clothing, background and what we wanted to convey, so the session took literally 20 minutes, which meant she could quickly get back to what she does best–sell real estate!

Reflecting on her headshot session with Dultmeier Photography, Debra expressed her pleasant surprise, saying,

You made it much easier than I expected. Previous headshot sessions were uncomfortable and awkward for me. I always felt self-conscious and simply wanted them to be over with.

Headshot photos: delivered with multiple crops and black-and-white versions

After the photo shoot, I selected the very best ones, posting about 15 in an online gallery, so that she and her assistant could easily choose their favorites. I then oversaw the retouching process to ensure the images truly showed Debra at her best, with very natural and detailed retouching. We created multiple crops, both full-resolution and web-sized images, making it easier for them to handle the images for their various needs. I also included high-quality black-and-white conversions, just in case.

Finally, the headshot images were delivered via an online link, allowing her immediate access for all her marketing needs. They were downloaded to her hard drive, for long-term storage.

We include black and white versions of each image.

The Unconventional Technique for Exceptional Headshots

During the session, I introduced Debra to one of my techniques that may initially seem unconventional. However, it has proven to be highly effective in capturing headshot portraits that radiate friendliness and professionalism. The technique is simple: I encourage my clients to laugh! While some may initially hesitate, I explain that it's not the laugh itself that I'm aiming to capture—it's the genuine expression that follows. Laughing naturally adds a sparkle to the eyes and creates an approachable and friendly atmosphere in the images.

Debra's session perfectly exemplified the positive impact of this technique. Even though most of us are inherently approachable and friendly individuals, being in front of a camera can sometimes make us self-conscious. Laughing helps alleviate those concerns and enhances the overall experience, plus makes it fun!

When it came time to choose her favorites, she found herself faced with a challenging decision.

You made it very hard to choose,” she said. “because they were really good photos! And I have never said that before about photos of myself.” (Of course, I loved hearing that!)

Even Debra's assistant, Cindy Price, was impressed and said, "We just downloaded them. Wow... they are so beautiful!"

Building Connections and Community: Debra's Passion for Real Estate in Martin County

It's worth mentioning that I have known Debra since my early days on the Treasure Coast in 1992. She was one of my first commercial clients, trusting me to photograph an oceanfront home on Hutchinson Island. I was initially nervous and apprehensive about photographing home interiors, but Debra's kindness and patience helped me through the process.

Recently, we had the pleasure of reconnecting at an event for Leadership Martin County, an educational program organized by the Stuart/Martin County Chamber of Commerce, which both Debra and I highly recommend. We both completed the program many years ago, with Debra being a member of class 7 and myself in class 8. Currently, the Chamber is preparing to launch class 33, and we both firmly believe that this year-long investment is a remarkable opportunity for personal growth and community engagement. (If the program sounds intriguing, applications are being accepted through June 23, 2023. Go here to learn more.)

When asked about her favorite aspect of her work here in Martin County, Debra said, "Our location! This is truly the best place in the State of Florida! I thoroughly enjoy helping people discover the beauty of our area and facilitating the buying and selling of homes." Her dedication to each client shines through, and her exceptional negotiation skills consistently yield successful outcomes.

As a resident of the Treasure Coast since 1965, Debra possesses an extensive historical knowledge of the region and a deep commitment to providing unparalleled service. Her primary service areas include Sewall’s Point, Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Hutchinson Island, and Rocky Pointe/Manatee Pocket.

Serving the treasure Coast Community Through Her Time and Talents

Throughout her career, Debra has continuously invested in our community. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Historical Society of Martin County, encompassing the Elliott Museum and Gilbert's Bar House of Refuge. She also holds positions on the Economic Council of Martin County and has previously served on the Boards of Enterprise Florida (E.F.I.) and Space Florida at the state level. Locally, she has held numerous positions within the Realtor Association of Martin County, including President, Chairman of the Professional Standards and Grievance Committees, Education Chairman, Secretary-Treasurer, and Chairman of the Finance Committee. Her peers have recognized her outstanding contributions, honoring her with the Realtor of the Year award in 1998 and again in 2003. Additionally, she has been involved with the American Cancer Society, Martin County Education Foundation, and various other organizations, firmly believing in giving back to the community and to her profession.

On a personal note, Debra's interest in real estate sparked at a young age as she saw the area's growth and the development of numerous neighborhoods.

"Growing up in Port St. Lucie, I witnessed the construction of homes and always had a keen interest in housing and architecture," she shared.

Most of her adult life has been spent in Stuart, where she still resides.

Sadly, Debra experienced the loss of her beloved husband a few years ago. Reflecting on their 35 years of marriage, she fondly remembers Mark as the love of her life. She deeply appreciates the fact that he knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Mark Duvall, too, made significant contributions to our community, working in marketing and development at Willoughby Country Club, and serving as Vice President at First Florida Development & Construction, Inc.

Dedicated to Preserving Local History and Supporting Nonprofits

When asked what she would like people to know when searching for a home in Martin County, Debra emphasized the importance of finding individuals who will be productive citizens and care for the community and the environment. Her own dedication to preserving local history and supporting nonprofits exemplifies her commitment to our area.

I love that I have known Debra for more than 30 years! I truly love our community and the relationships I have developed with other professionals through the years!
